Honda and GM Issue Separate Vehicle Recalls

Honda’s vehicle recall covered 24,889 Odyssey minivans in the 2014 model year because their airbags may not deploy during a crash. The deployment issue is, according to the manufacturer, caused by a shorting terminal, which prevents deployment of the airbag before it is put into the vehicle, may have been damaged during the assembly process so that it continues to prevent the airbag from deploying. The issue can illuminate the airbag warning light and prevent the side curtain airbags from activating in a crash.

The airbag problem was discovered during routine warranty repairs, and Honda stated that no injuries or deaths have been reported due to the problem.

Honda will officially notify vehicle owners on May 16th, and local dealerships will repair the minivans for free.

vehicle recallIn an unrelated vehicle recall, General Motors has issued yet another vehicle recall. This vehicle recall covers 50,000 luxury SUVs to fix a computer error that can delay acceleration for three or four seconds, which could lead to a crash. The luxury SUVs are Cadillac SRX’s, model year 2013.

GM noted in documents that filed with US safety regulators that the problem occurs when the transmission automatically shifts from first to second gear, and the driver brakes the car when driving under 5 mph.

GM has issued vehicle recalls that cover more than 7 million vehicles this year alone, with 2.6 million of those vehicles related to the company’s severe ignition switch problem. GM allegedly delayed the recall for 10 years, during which the company filed for bankruptcy and became, legally, the “new” GM. The ignition switch problem injured 31 people and killed 13.
