Black & Decker Settles for $960,000

The Maryland based Power Tool Company Black & Decker said they will pay $960,000 to settle a claim that it did not report a defective weed trimmer. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulators say Black & Decker "knowingly failed to report several safety defects and hazards and withheld information, relating to its Grasshog XP product.  The agency said this occured while they were investigating reports of the injury. 158 people were injured between 2005 and 2009. Actos Manufacturer facing Hundreds of Lawsuits

Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the maker of the world's best-selling diabetes drug Actos, has had hundreds of lawsuits filed against them. Click here to read more about the lawsuit. Hospital Lawsuit settles after Sponge Left in Patient’s Stomach

A hospital in  West Palm Beach, Florida paid $650,000 to settle a personal injury lawsuit against a man with a “retained foreign object and medication error.” The victim also reached a confidential and undisclosed settlement against two radiologists. The now 68-year-old individual was admitted to the hospital in October 2009 to undergo surgery for diverticulitis.  His said his recovery was slow, and after five months he was in more pain than prior to his surgery. 63 Year Old Woman awarded $2.2M for Dog Attack

A jury in Pierce County,WA awarded a 63 year-old woman $2.2 million for injuries she suffered when two pit bull dogs attacked her.  The incident left her with severe injuries to her face, neck, breasts, nose, arms and hands. The owner of one of the dogs was found liable for $1.1 million.   The County was found negligently responsible for $928,000 for not following up on previous complaints about ferocious dogs in the owner’s home. 10 Companies Recalling Gel Fuels

The Washington Post reported 10 companies are recalling 2 million bottles and jugs of the gel fuel used in outdoor firepots because of the serious risk for potential burns and exploding dangers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says the gel fuel has been connected to several dozen injuries when consumers could not tell whether the flame was still burning. Silicone Breast Implants Under Review

In 2010, the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health reported that almost 300,000 breast augmentation procedures and 90,000 reconstructions with implants took place in the U.S. About half of those procedures utilized silicone implants. These silicone gel-filled breast implants are currently being reviewed by the FDA’s General and Plastic Surgery Devices Panel for safety and effectiveness. Jury Gives $10 Million to Taser Victim

A 17-year-old Charlotte boy was stuck by a Taser outside a Food Lion in northeast Charlotte in March of 2008, resulting in the boy’s death. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who struck him violated department policy by shocking the teenager for approximately 37 seconds.
