Black & Decker Settles for $960,000

The Maryland based Power Tool Company Black & Decker said they will pay $960,000 to settle a claim that it did not report a defective weed trimmer. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulators say Black & Decker "knowingly failed to report several safety defects and hazards and withheld information, relating to its Grasshog XP product.  The agency said this occured while they were investigating reports of the injury. 158 people were injured between 2005 and 2009. 10 Companies Recalling Gel Fuels

The Washington Post reported 10 companies are recalling 2 million bottles and jugs of the gel fuel used in outdoor firepots because of the serious risk for potential burns and exploding dangers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says the gel fuel has been connected to several dozen injuries when consumers could not tell whether the flame was still burning. Jury Gives $10 Million to Taser Victim

A 17-year-old Charlotte boy was stuck by a Taser outside a Food Lion in northeast Charlotte in March of 2008, resulting in the boy’s death. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who struck him violated department policy by shocking the teenager for approximately 37 seconds.
