LLC cheese spread base used in production of the Oscars Smokehouse cheese spreads.
While no listeria illnesses related to this product have been reported, consumers are urged to return the cheese spreads for a full refund.
Listeria can cause a potentially fatal infection in those with compromised immune systems such as older adults, pregnant women, and young children. People with stronger immune systems could experience symptoms such as headache, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. According to the CDC, there were 1,651 cases of listeriosis nationally between 2009 and 2011 – the infection was fatal in 21% of the reported cases.
Contaminated Food Recall Notices Are One Step to Ensure Consumer Safety
Every year, thousands of consumers sustain serious injuries or illnesses from defective products, including food and prescription medications. A defective product lawyer can help you with an injury you may receive. Many of these injuries could be avoided if the manufacturers or distributors of these products took additional steps to ensure consumer safety, including timely health and safety recalls, such as drug and food recalls.
There are a number of reasons that defective products and contaminated foods make it to our shelves:
- Defective manufacturing
- Inadequate testing
- Design defects
- Marketing Misrepresentation
