Logging Truck Causes Fatal Wreck on Lodge Highway

According to WIS-TV, a Columbia man has died as a result of an accident caused yesterday afternoon on Lodge Highway in Colleton County when a logging truck attempting to pass on a double yellow line collided into the John Deere tractor he was driving.

John Shirey was driving a 1969 John Deere farm tractor down Lodge Highway when he tried to make a left turn onto Sunflower Lane.  The driver of a logging truck tried to pass on a double-yellow line and crashed into his tractor. The log truck overturned and spilled the logs onto the road.

While the accident is still under investigation, it appears based upon the report that this is another senseless tragedy that could have been prevented if the tractor trailer driver had simply followed the rules of the road.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shirey family.
