According to the report, the accident occurred at approximately 8:15 am when the deputy was patrolling near Highway 34 and 121. Something caused the deputy’s car to run off the road. He hit a tree, and the impact caused a fire.

Lucky for the deputy, an Army reservist was driving by and saw the car in flames. He was able to pull the deputy out of the burning vehicle, saving his life. The deputy went to Palmetto Richland Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were not life threatening.

The cause of the accident is unknown and is being investigated by the State Highway Patrol.
