LA Staples Center sued after 2-Year-Old Dies

The family of a 2-year-old boy who died the Staples Center last year has filed a lawsuit against the venue’s owner.

The family of the toddler named Staples Center owner Anschutz Entertainment Group in connection with their son’s accidental death.

The child fell about 28 feet from the third deck of skybox seats several minutes after the Lakers beat the Warriors  on November 21, 2010.

The lawsuit claims that the two-foot-high barrier separating the luxury box from the arena is dangerous and negligent.

The family said the area did not post signs to warn people of “dangerous conditions.” They also said that the arena keeps the barrier low to allows fans to have an unobstructed view of the game.

LAPD officials say the boy’s parents were taking pictures and reviewing them on a camera moments before he apparently wandered out of their sight and somehow fell over the glass partition.

The child later passed away from severe head trauma.
