A jury in Pierce County,WA awarded a 63 year-old woman $2.2 million for injuries she suffered when two pit bull dogs attacked her. The incident left her with severe injuries to her face, neck, breasts, nose, arms and hands.
The owner of one of the dogs was found liable for $1.1 million. The County was found negligently responsible for $928,000 for not following up on previous complaints about ferocious dogs in the owner’s home.
A neighbor was also found responsible for the remaining $110,000. She left her dog in the owners care when the incident occurred.
The county said it will appeal the ruling and their animal-control officials acted realistically given the information they were given. They also refute there were 14 calls made to the county related to these dogs.
The now 63-year-old victim says she may need supplementary surgeries for scarring.
