Pedigree Dog Food May Contain Metal Fragments, Manufacturer Issues Voluntary Recall

dog food recallA dog food recall has been expanded after the company became aware that metal fragments may be present in some bags of the dog food. Pedigree, which is owned by Mars Pet Care, issued a voluntary dog food recall, which the company expanded on August 31st. The original recall covered 22 bags shipped to Dollar General stores across the US, and the expanded recall covers Pedigree dog food at Sam’s Club in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. The affected bags may have been part of a production lot originally held as inventory, but which may have been released to consumers by accident. Mars Pet Care says that the company has not received reports of injury or death due to the metal fragments in the dog food. The metal fragments are also not embedded in the food, but scattered throughout, which still poses a consumption risk. The affected packages are:

  • 55-pound bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food sold at Sam’s Club will have the lot code432E1KKM03 printed on the back of the bag near the UPC and a Best Before date of 8/7/15. See below for a list of Sam’s Club stores.
  • 15-pound bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food sold at Dollar General stores will have the lot code432C1KKM03 printed on the back of the bag near the UPC and a Best Before date of 8/5/15. See below for a list of Dollar General stores.
